Gummy Bear Implants

Gummy Bear implants are experiencing a huge surge of popularity in New York, replacing the older technology that has been used in the past for silicone breast augmentation. Gummy Bear technically refers to implants manufactured by Sientra. However, some people use the term to describe any implant that has silicone which is more cohesive than the traditional silicone gel. For example, all tear drop shaped implants are made with more cohesive silicone.

Sientra’s Gummy Bear implants differ from traditional models in that they are constructed using a highly cohesive silicone gel. Silicone gel filled implants have silicone with a consistency akin to thick molasses. Gummy Bear implants have a more cohesive gel. This advance offers many advantages over the traditional silicone implant. Previous models for implants allowed the silicone to move to the bottom of the implant when vertical. The result is a partial collapse in the shape of the silicone near the top portion of the breast. The newer forms of silicone eliminate this problem by taking advantage of silicone that uses a higher amount of cross-linking on the molecular level. The increased stability results in a more consistent anatomical shape for the patient during all positions and orientations. Sientra also uses its high strength silicone gel in its round, non-tear drop implants.
